It’s a great idea to bring snacks to eat periodically during your move. Skipping meals, as it’s easy to do this during the stress and mental whirlwind of moving, can actually severly raise your cortisol and stress levels. Since you might not feel like dealing with preparing or finding a full meal, having snacks on hand is an absolute must.
Keep a mental image of how you will feel when your move is completed in your mind. Imagine how your new property will look when everything is unpacked and enjoying the new space with your friends and family.
By working with a professional moving team, like those here at Noah’s Ark Moving and Storage, you can reduce your anxiety associated with tackling all the affairs of your moving. Our team can handle all packing, loading, transportation, unpacking, and storage services!
Tell your movers if you have any issues with how your belongings are being transported. They will work with you to tackle any concerns and ensure that your moving process will be pleasant. This assurance greatly reduces the stress associated with the unknowns of moving.
We recommend engaging in some type of ritual or activity to say goodbye to your old home to make the transition easier. Share memories from your old home, have a drink with family members, take some pictures, or simply bond and literally say goodbye verbally to the home – these tactics especially work with small children who need some sense of psychological closure and boundaries during periods of transition.

Try to be prepared for eventualities before you start your move. Have a first aid kit packed,? and make sure to clear the pathway between your home and the moving vehicle of all potential hazards. If you’re moving out of an apartment building, let your neighbors know so they can potentially stay clear of the moving path. Its ideal to lessen the chances of bumping into people.
Always stretch before your move, and make sure to always lift up from your legs not your back. Keep your back straight, don’t bend it, and bend your knees – and lift straight up using your legs. This protects your back and allows you to preserve balance.
Make sure to always carry objects, especially heavy ones, over a clear path.l only carry amounts of weight that you can easily manage, and make a few trips rather than trying to compound all your items into just one trip. Walk slowly as much as possible, and try to hold boxes close to your body. Remember, moving tools like dollies, straps, hand trucks, and glides are your friend.
Make sure to get assistance for moving heavy items like disassembled furniture. Make sure to work well with your partners, and discuss your plans for moving an item before you pick it up. Stay conscientious of needs for breaks. If you’re giving an item to another person, don’t let go of it until you’re certain they can carry that amount of weight.

IDentify and get rid of items you no longer need. Consider donating to charity or even holding a? garage sale! Prepare for your move in advance by slowing up your grocery shopping so you don’t have a ton of perishable food you need to throw out right before your move.
Reuse old boxes from your last move, or look for used cardboard boxes or storage crates at local businesses. Use towels, comforters, sheets, or blankets instead of packing peanuts – this is easier to do if you can pack in advance. If you must use newly purchased packing materials, try to purchase compostable and/or biodegradable packing materials.
Try to work with a team of green professional movers, like the team here at Noah’s Ark Moving and Storage. Our team can plan routes with lower environmental impacts, drive in a manner that’s more environmentally careful (we will idle as little as possible.) As much as possible we will consolidate packing materials to not waste resources, and will get the entire moving process done in as swift and efficient a manner as possible.

Contact your moving company early on the day before your move. Make sure to verify the time the movers will arrive, if they will be providing any extra services, whether you have moving insurance, and any other contract stipulations. If there’s any last minute changes to your moving needs, let them know before they show up.
Make sure to pack a bag of moving essentials that will travel directly with you rather than in the moving truck. This should include your phone charger, changes of clothes, your passport, IDs, any medication, and any other important items. You will feel much better in knowing that all your valuable items are in a single place on your body.
Make sure to unplug any empty any appliances like fridges, washers, or driers. This includes disconnecting from hoses and leaving the door open to help it dry out. Fridges also need to be emptied and defrosted.
Aside from your moving essentials bag, you’ll want to bring snacks and drinks alongside to help make your move smoother. Items like electrolyte water and granola bars can prove useful in a mid day energy crash. Make sure to pack a ton of water bottles if you don’t like electrolyte drinks, as it’s easy to get dehydrated in the hustle and bustle.
If you’re moving with children, make sure to bring a variety of entertainment options for them, or create a zone of the house in which your children can play without disturbing the ove. A laptop or a tablet is a great choice – just make sure to download videos ahead of time in the event that your Wi-Fi will be disabled.
Make sure to get a great night’s sleep the night before your move. Eat a nutritious full dinner, and plan your day and evening to finish any pertinent tasks early so you have enough time to settle in and have a relaxing night. Don’t worry about packing up your bedding – you can always do that in the morning!

You will receive much more quality rates for your move the longer in advance you book it. Keep in mind that the highest demand for moving is between April and September – with demand peaking in June, July, and August. Weekends are busier than weekdays. If you schedule your move as far in advance as possible for one of these off-months, off-days, and off-hours you can probably relieve a much cheaper rate.
If your move is local, within or to a neighboring town, you will have an easier time booking your move sooner to the date. However if you’re planning on moving during the busy Summer months, we will advise you to book it 3 weeks ahead.
If you’re staying in the same State but moving to a new city, we recommend booking your move AT LEAST 3 months in advance. Intrastate moves take about an entire day to complete, and due to this long service time and constant demand, summertime moving blocks fill up rather quickly. If your intrastate move is planned for an off-season, you can book it comfortably 2 months in advance.
If you’re planning on moving to a new State, ook your move at least 3-4 months in advance. Some moving companies won’t move across state lines, so make sure that your movers will. Interstate moving companies need to be registered with the United States Department of Transportation. It’s a wise idea to book any interstate moving service you will need as far in advance as possible.
Consider the size of your move – the larger the property you’re moving from / into, the more stuff and time and attention you will require. Consider if you’ll be moving heavy items, antiques, or valuables – like pianos or heirlooms – and ensure that your moving team is equipped to move delicate and rare materials. Also consider what moving services you require – do you want full packing and unpacking service? Do you want your movers to take apart your furniture and put it back together again? Do you want to store your belongings at a storage unit? Consider all your desired moving services, and contact them as far in advance as possible with all this information in order to set a solid booking time, get a cheap rate, an ideally, getting a quote for your move in advance.

Make sure to have a vet visit before you move. You want a full proof of all medications, vaccinations, and all necessary paperwork. If you’re moving to a new State, you may require a health certificate for your pet. We recommend taking care of this in advance of your move.
Animals with separation anxiety might have a hard time with this, but by keeping your pets at a different location during the moving day, you won’t have to be concerned with them running away or potentially being injured during the moving process.
Pets are sensitive to changes in routine, which can really stress them out. Make sure that you allow your pets to get used to what’s going on over time, as slowly as possible, and they will respond better. Bring a familiar item with them during the move like a favorite toy or blanket.
Make sure your pets get used to their carrying case by giving them a chance to explore and sit in it over time in advance of the move. This should be done with both dogs or cats. The more time you have to get your pets used to sitting in the kennel, the better they will react when housed in it during the move.
Make sure that identification is always kept on your pet’s body on a collar. Make sure their collar fits properly, and that their tag is both secure and has a phone number for you on it.

Make sure that you have the contact info for the main customer service person so that you can check in with them during the move and/or let them know if there’s any changes. You should also try to get the driver’s phone number in the event that you want to contact them regarding any deliveries or loading changes. Make sure to also get the number of a point of contact that you can speak to after hours.
Make sure to ask for an itemized estimate of all charges. Make sure to ask if any other potential chargers are included in this estimate.
Make sure to ask for a round time for when your items will arrive. Ask for a delivery window during the process of loading up your items, and then ask for a more exact delivery date or time once all items are loaded up.
Ask if there’s any items that cannot go on the moving truck. These usually are items that are flammable or explosive. We also recommend directly transporting items like cash, art, jewelry, or other electronics yourself in your own vehicle.
Ask if your moving company is implementing COVID-19 safety precautions. Ask them if they are washing hands, wearing masks, and properly social distancing – and ensure that the entire moving crew does so during the entirety of your moving service.

Interstate movers are the best possible choice a person can go with for their long distance moving needs. The logistics and stresses associated with amateur DIY interstate moves simply vanish away when you work with a professional interstate moving team, so if you want to give yourself a break and reward yourself, reach out to a professional moving team to handle all aspects of your long distance move.
Professional interstate movers have license and certification through the United States Department of Transportation’s Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.
Some interstate movers have a higher level of professionalism. You can verify that an interstate mover has a higher professional level of courtesy and talent by investigating if they have credentials with national professional moving organizations. The two main professional moving organizations that you should check to see if a moving company has a relationship what are the American Moving and Storage Organization (AMSA) and the Better Business Bureau (BBB.)
In order to provide an accurate assessment of the required cost of your move, a professional interstate moving team will assess the interior of your property in order to figure out if any of your belongings need special packing or transportation protocols, as well as the layout of your home to determine if there’s structural hindrances that will make transportation of your belongings out of your house more difficult.
Some items cannot be transported in an interstate move – including flammable items (that can easily combust on fire,) corrosive liquids (chemicals, pesticides, etc) and (of course!) explosives. There’s a long list of items and materials that cannot be transported, so if you’re moving a farm, factory, art studio, or other property that may include these forbidden materials, ask your licensed intestate mover if they can provide you a list of what items or materials cannot be moved.
